This week Room 8 students were amped to be back in class! We spent our first few days connecting and checking in with our hauora which is an important part of uniting together.. Here are some ways in which we connected back at school this past week... We learnt how to 'Recognise the importance of noticing others and the benefits of being kind'. Here is a picture of our brainstormed ideas about what the benefits of being kind means to us
After listening and sharing about the story 'Tu meke Tuatara' we created our class mural together. Here are some photos of us
FINALLY here is our finished class art mural !
lets not forget our learners from home also! Check out Kalos pixel art piece she created and a short blurb she wrote:-) Kalo wrote: So the dog is stuck because the stick is blocking the dog and the dog is trying to ask for help and the cat is sad but the parrot is trying to cheer up cat but cat is still isn't happy so while they were walking they herd a dog barking for help so the cat ran to the dog and tried to move the stick.

Learning so far..

Room 8 learners have been learning about our NZ native birds, we been making connections with what  we already know and learnt some interesting facts about conservation. We have a shared knowledge of what it means to be a good kaitiaki. We enjoyed learning about 2D and 3D shapes in real life contexts! So we had an activity where we needed to explore inside and outside our home for different shaped items and write what we know about those items. It was interesting, and some of us searched online for different shapes and wrote and shared what we knew about them.

Also, we enjoyed the celebrations for Tongan language week also! Well done to some of our own Room 8 students Sisilia, Leva and the Griffiths sisters of Katrina family for sharing poem recitals in Tongan at assembly this past week :-).

Some of us, including Mrs.Manuel shared our baking skills too ! It was so nice to see Glen brae students, whanau, and staff enjoying baking at home, and sharing it with us all..

Home learning so far...

Kia ora all,

Room 8 students were lucky enough to continue learning from home before going into Level 4 lockdown. Each person has been settling into home learning in their own homes and we have been putting in the effort to normalise a home learning routine of google meets and sharing our learning online.

Here are a couple of home learning tasks Room 8 students have been doing...

Financial literacy

Room 8 are grateful and thankful that PWC could Come through to teach us about financial literacy. Here is what Room students had to say: "I learnt how to save money, and always use the money on things that cost less. Whatever money is left I would use for a good cause and needs" By K. "I learnt that you need to save money and that you should buy what you need, but not buy what you want. Because, in the future you may not have the money. you need to get by". I also enjoyed the 'spending money game' because it was challenging when you try to use your money on expensive stuff when you had to pay for needs first such as your rent, power, transport, etc" by K "I learnt that you have to work hard to make money and make it far in life. Also, you need to have savings when you want to make big purchases, and. you can only do this when you dont spend too much money on wants" by D. "I enjoyed having fun playing money activities such as throwing the bean bag on the money cards and depending on the card the bean bag landed w ecould collect points for our groups" By J. "I learnt how to save money, and one way we can do that is by buying less expensive stuff so that we can have more money. Because if we buy expensive stuff we wont have any or much money left which means we wont be able to pay for the things that we need . For example,if our car broke down we would not have the money to pay insurance to fix it if we dont save" By R.

Our class trip to 'Te Oro' to learn about Matariki and celebrate through the arts

What Room 8 students had to say about their trip to 'Te oro' to learn about Matariki through the arts. Paint Kowhaiwhai patterns on wood: First they let us draw our maori symbols (patterns) on a piece of paper, and then we drew it onto hard wood. I found drawing our symbols on wood kind of hard. Next we started painting our maori symbols. I used alot of gold paint because it was shiny. After that we let it dry. At the end we went onto the mat and each group showed others what they did and how they did it. (D.S) We learnt that kowhaiwhai patterns are symbols that are important to Maori people and they tell traditional storis about maoripeople. Paint a taniwha onto stone (stone art): Frist we said a pray and did a song about matariki . Second we got put into three groups. Group one did stone art, group two did weaving, and group three did painting . I was in group one so I did rock arts. After that we showed our art to everyone and how we did it.Then we went back to school. We learnt that the taniwha is the gardian of the sea. Weave a matariki star using harakeke (flax): We enjoyed learning how to weave a star using flax. We had to listen and hear the teacher tll us how to do it . It was hard but we enjoyed it.

Kiwi can

Kiwi can
We have been learning about positive relationships and ways in which we can develop positive relationships.

Kiwi can provides us opportunities through fun games and general knowledge activities to build us up and develop our understandings of positive relationships.

Using remove.bg

We had Mr Goodwin come and visit our class for Cybersmart lessons and he taught us how to use remove.bg to cut out around our heads.

We cut ourselves out and made it look like we were dining at our favourite restaurants. Here is some our pics!
