Room 8 learn essential basketball skills through fun games activities

Room 8 tamariki enjoyed learning essential skills for basketball through games on activities!

In this scene below they got into pairs to practice throwing and catching the ball. They showed great hand eye-co-ordination and arm movements in passing and catching the ball! Each time they were able to catch the ball they would take a step back until the last pair standing won. If they dropped the ball they would have to sit in their peers .

Here they are playing a game of octopus, but in this twist they had to dribble the ball from one end of the court to the other without getting tagged! It was great to see the determination and how they navigated the court :-)

Last but not least, they played a game called 'Golden child' where one team are shooters and the other team runners!

Here team a line up to shoot hoops and team b take turns to run the court, if the shooter gets the ball in the hoop then the runner has to freeze (stop) where they are , and the next runner goes. After a while , once it gets to the last runner they are the 'Golden child' all the frozen players have to make a dash for the base/home base. However many make it home without the shooter getting the ball in the hoop that is how many points are scored.

Overall, great learning of basketball skills through fun games :-)

Room 8 Learning

Rom 8 super learners have been learning about 'My Place ' places within communities that have a special place and/or purposes in our lives and the lives of those around us. We are thinking about the places that make up our own community .
